Dave Spencer plays guitar and sings. He also plays bass, mandolin, banjo, clarinet and saxophone. He has played professionally since 1972.He received a BA in Music from UNC Chapel Hill in 1977 and a BA in Music Education from NCCU in 1999.
While in Chapel Hill he played at The Cat’s Cradle, He’s Not Here and the Station. He also did stints at Devine’s and Somethyme in Durham,
Dave moved to Austin Texas in 1980 where he played at Libery Lunch and Hole in the Wall.
In New Orleans, 1982 - ’87, he appeared at The Old Opera House and The Famous Door as well as The New Orleans Jazz Festival.
In Charleston, SC he played at Café 99, and Tommy Condon’s, 1987 - ‘91.
Back in North Carolina Dave has performed at The Camp Springs Bluegrass Festival, The Johnston County Bluegrass Festival, The Latta Plantation Folk Festival in Charlotte, The US Bi-centennial Celebration in Philadelphia, and The Eno River Festival in Durham. He was also a member of The Moore Square Band during their ten year run at The Irregardless Cafe in Raleigh.
Dave also teaches guitar classes at Cardinal Gibbons High School, teaching five classes a day.
